The City as Oracle One-on-One Performance

In this on-on-one performance, each spectator in invited to engage with a question they’d like answered or further developed. In conversation with the performer, the initial question becomes the point of departure for an interaction with the space of the city.

Based on Calvino’s idea that a city has answers to any question if we know how to ask it, performer and spectator become a duo of curious wanderers and then a trio joined by the urban space. As impressions, words, sounds, visual and other sensed elements are registered as marks on paper, an improvised deck of oracle cards organically comes into being.

Coming back to the question, the cards produced are then used to directly address it through divination. Questions are answered, transformed and enriched by the subtle shift in modes of attention proposed in the work.
