“One sunny day the animals had enough.” Because the animals are entirely fed up and no longer want to watch idly as human beings ruin the planet – with war. And revolutions. And starvation. And new diseases. The humans hold one conference after the other. There is a lot of talk, but absolutely no change. And so the animals decide to hold their own conference in order to save the world – not just for themselves, but also for all the human children who really can’t help it that their parents missed the curve. It will be the biggest protest action of all time …

How the animals give the humans a daring ultimatum and how they manage to come out as the winners through their wit and resoluteness, is a story told by Erich Kästner in his classic children’s novel – published in 1949 it is more relevant now than ever before. In the version by Henry Mason the animals’ protest is released in an anarchic joy of play and boundless theatrical fantasy.
